Today, I ended up in Marshall-Shadeland in order to finish out what Danielle, Johnny, and I hadn’t been able to. I intended to take a long walk because I was solo but sometimes plans don’t go the way you want them to.
I parked on the corner of California and Superior and started up. It was just after 9AM and the sun was already relentlessly beating down. I parked in a low, shady spot and could only go up. So up I went.
Ireland Way was a short alley but I chose to walk to the very end of it. Like many (if not all) streets in Pittsburgh, the roadway has definitely seen better days.
When I started walking all of the streets in Pittsburgh, one of the rules I made was that I didn’t have to walk on all of every street, I just needed to step foot on each street. Lately, I’ve been trying to walk most of every street I visit. I usually find something strange when I take these seemingly pointless journeys down dead ends.
On my walks I often find coincidences. Today’s walk was full of strange signs and streets named after food. On Cake Way I saw at least one strange sign.
Near Wing Way I saw some more signs.
On Brighton Road, a short, high door hung out of place.
I walked the streets that sat between Shadeland and Brighton and found myself near the Kuhn’s grocery story. It was then that I realized I’d run out of unique streets. I was shocked. This will definitely start happening more as I walk more streets, I just didn’t expect it at all today.
I walked back towards my car but not before getting a few pictures of the old St. Gabriel’s school building that sits between Colorado Way and California Avenue.
It’s currently boarded up and the site of an unofficial refuse dump.
No posts for a week or so. I’m going on a beach vacation!
