Unique Streets: 2
Miles Walked: 2.23
On a hot and sunny Sunday, my family (Me, my husband, his mom, John, and George) headed to Eggs N’ Moore in Arlington for some breakfast. It was so yummy that we all ate way too much. Afterwards, I suggested a trek to the South Side Slopes Park to walk on the Tombstone Trail. I’d seen it on the map a few times but still had never been on it. My husband was wary and continuously asked me how far it was. “Oh, it’s only about two blocks from here!” He still didn’t trust me and as we started down Sterling Street he warned “You know if we keep going down, we’re going to have to go back up.” Thank you, Captain Obvious.
We made it into the park and started on the trail.
I was excited to finally see some Tombstones but the other adults in the group weren’t so excited about steady descent into the South Side Flats. There was a lot of stopping and talking it out. I just wanted to keep moving. Finally, we came to a clearing in the woods where an apparent party took place the night before. There had been a fire, a keg, and hundreds of multi colored solo cups.
After surveying the damage, we headed further onto the trail towards S. 18th Street.
I knew that if we stayed on the trail, we would eventually end up back on Arlington Avenue. The rest of the group did not believe me. My husband took an abrupt right and ended up on Quarry Street. This meant we had a very large detour around the park and the complaining ensued. George has the shortest legs but other than me, was the one to complain the least.
Long story short, we survived and we still love each other.
