On this chilly day in March, I decided to revisit a section of Brookline I’d walked at the end of January. Im glad I did because some things had definitely changed in 30 days. On 1/29/20, the lake/pond in the woods between Brookline and Overbrook looked like this:
On March 6, 2020, it was almost completely drained:
A trio of men were working with a backhoe and standing in the shin-high water so I was reluctant to take a picture of them. Instead, I focused on the tunnel leading to the busway:
It was filled with graffiti including the mothman!
After some quick trespassing on the busway, I found myself on Saw Mill Run Boulevard. I crossed it to walk in Carrick for a bit and didn’t pick up a single new street. But I did see some interesting lawn art.
Eventually, I made my way back across and walked the majority of my new streets for the day. Moredale, Petunia, Goff, etc. It was wholly uneventful except for the random waft of marijuana smoke from some interior space. then, I made a friend.
After some pets, I walked back to my car and drove to Cains Local Bar + Kitchen on W. Liberty. Shrimp Tacos were on their Lenten menu and they were delicious.
I chatted with an older man who told me that he lived in the senior high rise nearby. He said that every day he came over here for lunch.
I think about him and hope he made it out on the other side of the coronavirus.
