One sunny day in April, Johnny came with me on a walk in Spring Hill-City View very near to where we’d had our picnic earlier that month.
We parked on Brahm and started up. Many houses in this section of the city are perched precariously on steep slopes. Their adhesion to the hillside makes one wonder how they were placed there so well over 100 years ago. It truly is a marvel of engineering. Some things like city stairs, haven’t held up nearly as well.
Up and up we went around the windy bends of Brahm until it turned into Buente. List turned into Schnittgen and then Lappe into Mathias. We walked a bit on Bun Lane but not too much since a senior healthcare residence sat at the top of the hill.
With all of the new streets out of the way, we revisited some of my old friends: Rhine, Wessel, Yetta. On the latter I showed Johnny all of the cool mosaics on the bottoms of houses.
Pretty soon, we found ourselves with a grand view of downtown and the 279 valley.
We got back to the car sooner than later because weeks of quarantine had an effect on my walking buddy. Too much sun, too many hills, too many complaints. We headed further into Spring Hill and I spotted a greenway access. This face is the only thing that stopped me from exploring it.
I wasn’t done but he was. Oh well, I’ll explore it someday.
